1937 Belisha Card Game by Pepys, England

Description

This vintage card game is in remarkable condition for age with no sign of use.  It even has the original waxed paper wrap with the Pepys ‘Seal’.  Includes a full set of 52 cards plus the Joker.  The original Rules booklet is pristine and appears to be unread!  The box is also in very good order with all corners intact.  I think this was the superior version of the game, contained in a two piece padded Box.  Very rare to find an example in such good condition.

Description from the World of Playing Cards website:   Published by Castell Brothers Ltd, 1937.  Belisha was published as a new and improved form of the universally popular game of Rummy, offering “more scope for intelligent play”. Based around a motor journey from London to Oban, Belisha was produced with a desire to make a helpful contribution to the national “Safety First” campaign following the introduction of ‘Belisha’ beacons, designed to reduce road casualties, particularly among children. By 1951 the black and white stripes, with Belisha beacons on either side of the road, were approved as ‘Zebra’ crossings.
