Description
This ‘pre-Disney’ vintage Board Game was made in England and dates from 1935. The Winne-the-Pooh Race Game is based on the books and characters created by A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard. The large game board is composed of four quadrants connected by cloth. The playing surface has five pathways for the Characters to explore. The pathways are interspersed with the wonderful illustrations of E. H. Shepard. The game includes a complete set of playing pieces, a bone dice and wooden shaker. The five character figures (Pooh, Piglet, Kanga, Eeyore and Rabbit) are cast in lead and painted to match their associated pathways on the board. Some of the figures have encountered minor mishaps along the way! There is a short video showing the playing pieces here. The game was published by The Teddy Toy Company, London.
A copy of this rare game is held by the prestigious Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum, London. Although I note that their example (here) does not include the Winnie the Pooh figure!
