Description

Appears to be an early novel version of the ‘Shut the Box’ game, using real dominoes attached to a framework for scoring.  The game is complete with the wooden frame, two dice and a large wooden shaker.  It is in excellent condition for its age, with little sign of use.  The original box is also in good order, being structurally sound and with corners intact.  There is a split on the base of the box along one of the shorter edges. Game instructions, along with a charming advert for a Mickey Mouse game, are printed on the underside of the box lid as shown.

The game was designed in England and manufactured by J.W. Spear & Sons, Bavaria for export to English speaking countries.  It is estimated to date from the late 1920’s.  This game is advertised on another Spears game from the same period ‘South Sea Adventures‘ (see separate listing).  The box measures 35 x 9 x 7 cm.
