Description
A very nice example of this rare 1930’s amusement, still in its original box. The Charlie Chaplin figure remains fully functional, having jointed knees, hips and shoulders. This is an original period piece, believed to date from 1930. It was manufactured in England by The Lightning Company, 31 Willesden Lane, London. The figure has been strengthened with card, on the reverse side at the shoulder area, where it was creased (see photo). The box is in good condition for age but the left hand edge / flap is missing. A superb decorative item which would grace any collection.
Note: Whilst researching this item, I have seen other versions, which appear to be of simpler design and cheaper construction. These have fewer moving parts, with no articulation of the shoulders. They may also be smaller and were retailed in wax paper packets rather than a box.
