“A most Diverting Game”
Here we have a wonderful complete set of antique ‘Snap’ playing cards in their original sliding box. The game is complete with a full set of cards in superb condition and with little sign of use. They are all crisp, clean and uncreased with no light fading. There are 10 different Grotesque Characters depicted, with four of each design. As indicated on the box, they were designed in England and manufactured at the Spear Works in Bavaria. The game dates from the early twentieth century c.1920. The box also includes the original retailers label (Harry Johnson & Nephew, Cambridge). I have included a couple of photos of their shop for historical interest.
