Description
Extremely rare antique board game, in excellent, museum quality condition. Online sources estimate the date of this original version at around 1920. Personally, from the styling, I would think it was more likely to be Edwardian and certainly prior to World War I. The game was made in Bavaria by J W Spear & Sons for export to an English speaking market. The German version, which has a modern reproduction, was called Auf und Ab! Similar to Snakes & Ladders, the game has a Circus ‘Performing Animals’ theme and contains wonderful artwork throughout.
The game shows little sign of use and appears to be complete with six wooden playing pieces and dice. The instructions are printed on a label, attached to the underside of the box lid. The box itself is in great condition for age with a delightful image on the box lid. Box measures 12 x 8 x 1 inches.
