Description
This rare antique game is in great condition for its age. As with many of these early childrens’ games, this Snakes and Ladders has educational aspirations, intended to instil Victorian moral values. Check out the images on the game board, a fascinating glimpse of social history! The Rules are printed on the underside of the box lid as shown. The game was designed in England and manufactured in Bavaria by J.W. Spear & Sons. Difficult to be exact about the date, but I would estimate publication during the late Victorian period, c.1890’s. A lovely, museum quality example which would grace any collection.
