Description

A very rare and early version of this classic parlour game, believed to date from the late Victorian period.  I have been unable to find another example of the box, but the ‘Gloomy Fish‘ Fish Pond is illustrated in the definitive book of Roberts Brothers (Glevum) games.  As can be seen, the box is a lot larger than more modern examples and has a wonderful chromolithograph label, depicting players in their Victorian dress.  There are four cane fishing rods, each with a horseshoe magnet suspended from a string.  The game also includes an assortment of fish marked with different weights and two old Boots!  Game instructions are printed on a label, attached to the underside of the box lid.  The ‘Fish Pond’ is well made of very thick card and in excellent condition.  The box has corner repairs (internal) and small areas of edge loss commensurate with age.
